Mildred Borum Cooper
The Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel was built in Mildred’s honor by her family as an expression of appreciation for her many contributions, as well as a celebration of her deep spiritual and great love and respect for nature.
Born in Earle, Arkansas on August 29, 1906, Mildred Borum Cooper devoted much of her life to family, church, school and community services. The wife of John A. Cooper Sr., founder of Cooper Communities Inc., Mildred, too, was successful in business. In addition to serving as postmistress of West Memphis, AR, and later Cherokee Village, AR, she was also the owner of gift shops in Cherokee Village and Bella Vista Village, AR.
Mildred served as President of the United Methodist Women’s organizations in West Memphis and Cherokee Village and also as President of the Forest City District WSCS, subsequently named United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Cooper organized two Girl Scout troops, became active in scouting on a regional basis in Tennessee and served on the Finance Committee of the Ark Girl Scout Council. In Cherokee Village, she organized the first garden club, homes extension club and library. Mildred served as the first secretary of the Cherokee Village Development Company.
The family of Mildred B. Cooper is hopeful that each person who visits this Chapel will find it to be a great source of inspiration as Mildred was to those whose lives she touched.
